Frequently Asked Questions
What is Applied behavior analysis (ABA)?
ABA Therapy is an effective treatment for children with special needs. With ABA therapy, the children's quality of life improves as they are taught skills to help them reach their full potential. The focus of the therapy is to train new skills and reduce any problem behaviors that are affecting your child's life.
Will ABA Help My Child?
ABA is an evidence based approach, meaning treatment efficacy has been studied for decades across thousands of children and it has proven to be effective. The therapy is individualized, therefore your child will be trained on behaviors and skills that are socially significant and tailored to his/hers needs, as well as the family's and academic needs. This may include verbal communication, social skills, independent daily living skills, play skills, and self-care skills.
When is it recommended to begin ABA therapy?
Early intervention has proved to be the most effective, so the earlier your child receives ABA therapy the more significant their progress will be.
How Long is an ABA Session?
The length of the session will vary per child's needs. Some kids may receive 2 hours per day, others may receive up to 6 hours per day. The hours are based on how much support your child needs and the availability.
Who will provide the ABA Therapy?
Your child will be paired with a team of professionals that specialize in providing ABA Therapy. The direct service provider may be a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), who has received direct training and supervision from a behavior analyst to master the skills necessary to provide highest standard of service delivery. Supervising the RBT and providing training to the family members will be a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst, and Board Certified Behavior Analyst or Licensed Health Care Professional, such as Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Social Worker.
Is ABA Therapy one-on-one?
DABS provides one-on-one therapy to all the kids in order to hone in on the child's needs. Social Skills groups are also offered for kids that will benefit from peer to peer communication and social play.
